AWARDS!
Finally, I think I've got everything together on this. I'll be contacting individual award winners over the next few days.
Cat's Choice
Unlike other awards, Cat's Choice is chosen and funded by me. The prize is an Amazon gift certificate for $25, and my personal thanks for making a special contribution to the Blogathon. This year, I've chosen someone who discovered the event too late to sign up. Nonetheless, he not only blogged with us, he became a much loved part of the community. Congratulations to Maus, and thank you so much for blogging with us! I hope to see you on board again next year--officially.
The rest of the winners receive:
Three items from the Blogathon Cafe Press store;
A free premium Cafe Press shop with one free t-shirt;
A $25 gift certificate good at any of the Goo Shopping stores;
Additional prizes as listed with the award.
Most Funds Raised
Everyone did an incredible job this year, and as usual, the Magen David Adom folks came through with flying colors. It's no surprise that the top fundraiser, Meryl Yourish, is among them. Congratulations, Meryl. In addition to the standard prize package, Meryl wins a sample pack of coffees from Flying Bean Coffee.
Monitors' Choice
In addition to the standard prize package, Monitors' Choice blogs also receive a sample pack of coffees from Flying Bean Coffee.
They Might Be Monitors chose a first-time 'thonner who embraced the event wholeheartedly, Klondike Kate. Kate blogged a fascinating history of Alaska, and had a lot of fun doing it. From Jenn, the fearless leader of TMBM: "Not only did she write a really compelling blog for the event, but she also made sacrifices in order to be able to make substantial donations to other people's causes." Congrats, Kate.
The Yellow Darts chose 'thon veteran Laura Sina of emptyPictures. Laura doesn't have her Blogathon archive up anymore, but she's a very watchable photoblogger, and I recommend her current site.
Theme Categories
In addition to the standard prize package, each theme category winner will receive a Blogger t-shirt and a free pro/plus account, and a copy of Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instang Web Content by Biz Stone, courtesy New Riders.
The Best Undefined Project goes to the author of a riveting tour of the underground, Jonas of The Book of FSCK. His ground-breaking project introduced readers to a side of society not often seen--the world of those who benefit most from our sponsors' generosity. Thanks, and congrats.
There was little doubt about the Best Audience Participation--the toilets are just unbeatable. Congratulations to Twodolla.org, who once again charmed us with the dance of the commodes. I really must send her a picture next year.
The Best Music Project goes to two singer/songwriters who gave us a glimpse inside the creative process from beginning to end, Shannon Campbell and Scott Andrew of Pet Rock Stars. Not only did they write and record two songs via long distance, those songs are good. Thanks for such a fun project.
Best Writing Project was a little closer, but the award goes to the writer with the stamps, World Message Day, who wrote 24 letters to 24 leaders. The campaign was so successful, the writing continues!
Flash experiments made the winner of the Best Visual Arts blog, Galaxy Goo, highly entertaining to follow. The project had pizzazz, and caught the eyes of bloggers and judges alike. Congrats to everyone at the site, and thanks for making sparkly things.
Best Themed Blog
In addition to the standard prize package, the winner of the Best Themed Blog will received 20K worth of free text ads from Metafilter, and a sample pack of coffees from Flying Bean Coffee.
Best Theme Blog goes to another blogger who has won twice by knowing their audience. Congratulations to Shaun of Chocolatada! for once again making our lives sweeter with tales of chocolate. I, for one, will never get enough. Great job.
Best Blog
In addition to the standard prize package, the winner of Best Blog will receive 20K worth of free text ads from Metafilter, and a gift basket from Flying Bean Coffee.
This year's Best Blog took us on a riveting journey through the life of a phone sex operator, answering frank questions, and filling the hours with stories that were impossible to ignore. Congratulations to Alex of Imperfect Girl, for demonstrating excellence in content, for pushing the boundaries, and for being a most brilliant gem in Blogathon 2003.
I'd like to thank our event sponsors one more time for providing the prizes for this year's event: Goo Shopping, Cafe Press, Metafilter, Blogger, New Riders, and home town folks Flying Bean. You are all fantastic for supporting this event so generously.
