Blogger Spotlight: laurenesque for GBS/CIDP Foundational International

"I'm blogging for GBS/CIDP Foundational International because my godfather, whom I am very close to, contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome in November. GBS is pretty rare and many people don't know about it, but it can affect anyone of any age and strikes pretty much without warning. It's often mistreated because even specialists only see a handful of cases in their lifetimes.

"My godfather's GBS has left him paralyzed from the neck down since November until just last week when he finally was able to move his leg without any help. Prior to that, we've had a lot of near-death scares with him, because GBS has a lot of even more rare variants, and he's been affected by that too. These variants have caused everything some temporary blindness to delusions.

"GBSFI is one of two GBS charities in the US and I feel that not enough is being done in terms of research to identify the causes of GBS and how to speed up the recovery process. When I decided to do Blogathon, we thought my godfather might die from GBS. But since this recent development with his leg, we are more hopeful, and he's been put back into rehab to progress more-- and that just gives me more of a reason to support GBS/CIDP Foundation International."
