Blogger Spotlight: TenseTeacher for The Smile Train
"I only recently learned about the existence of the charity I chose, The Smile Train, but immediately it struck a chord with me.
"The Smile Train repairs cleft lips and palates for children whose families cannot afford the simple surgery needed to give them the ability to smile, talk and eat normally. I, too, was born with a cleft lip, but I was blessed to have parents who had insurance and were able to take me to plastic surgeons who would repair my lip. I had 2 surgeries, one at age 3 months and another again at age 7; I could have one more surgery to do away with the slight scar that remains, but I choose to keep it. It's part of who I am, and very few people ever notice it; however, when they do, I am not ashamed to tell them about my past.
"In that way, and hopefully also through my participation in this blogathon, I can make people aware of this all-too-common problem, and maybe I can lead others to be generous."
